ATHENAEUM OF ANTIQUES
MSA, 2015-2016
This project is a design for an auction house. The design is inspired by John Soane’s Museum in London.
The building is located in the listed area of Glasgow’s West End. I chose the location provide an opportunity to explore the relationship between old and new architecture and challenge myself to respond to it. The project within the brief is based on discussions with staff auction houses, antique markets and shops. Apart from the Auction Hall, the building also accomodates a workshop for repairing and preparation of exhibits, a library, an outdoor exhibition courtyard and a cafe.
A significant proportion of this project was dedicated to building’s sustainability and minimizing the possible negative effect on the environment and the exhisting context. I undertook structural, material, light, ventilation, etc. investigations all to develop the technological strategy.
