DIPLOMA PROJECT
SPbSUACE, 2014-2015
URBAN DESIGN
This project is the regeneration of a dilapidated area in St Petersburg.
Despite the area’s poor condition, it has the potential to be a good place to live. Thus, the key aim was the development of community interaction. To make the area more liveable, I designed additional education units, a community centre, an avenue for promenades and a landscape system with a cafe and amphitheatre for relaxing outdoors.
The area has very close connection to the nature, so one of the main purposes of the design was to develop the outdoor activities and concentrate the commercial, residential, industrial fucntions around it. This would allow the community to interact and make the area more liveable. The main source of inspiration for this project was the concept of a "Garden City", which was developed in the beginning of 20th century.

HOUSING
After the urban design proposal, the next step within the diploma work was development of a housing block.
For this project I chose the southern block, as it had a challenging terraced house typology and played the role of a ‘gate’ to the residential area.
To make housing more attractive for inhabitants and to develop community interation, I designed new terraces, which face south and have a view to the city. Moreover, I designed playgrounds, sport amenities and public spaces to bring people together.
In order to increase the design sustainability, I developed variety of flats, meeting the regulations in regards to natural light and ventilation. The design proposal also contains the underground parking to reduce the number of cars outside and minimize the bad impact on the environment.
The project was developed in detail in terms of services, water supply and structures.
