THE LIVEABLE CITY
Mackintosh School of Architecture, 2016
This book distils the stage 4 research project conducted by six students from the Glasgow School of Art’s Mackintosh School of architecture. The group was tutored by Professor Brian Evans in collaboration with Professor Jim Stockard from the Harvard Graduate School of Design through the Fulbright Award to the Glasgow Urban Laboratory.
The book is an exploration of the concept of ‘liveability’ using a comparative analysis of Boston and Glasgow as a medium. What is it about the living conditions that make them not just tolerable places to live but ultimately liveable cities, and for whom? By studying themes including culture, communities, economy, political systems and infrastructure this book seeks to provide a deeper understanding of what factors and attributes make a city a more liveable place.
